JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved dermal filler that, according to its manufacturer, Allergan, Inc., is designed to “temporarily treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds” in people older than 21. Unlike the original JUVÉDERM injectable gel, JUVÉDERM XC is infused with lidocaine to make its injection more comfortable.
JUVÉDERM XC is a smooth-consistency gel that restores volume to the skin, and smooths away moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a sugar that occurs naturally in the body. In terms of the skin, HA‘s role is to deliver nutrients and hydration, and act as a cushioning agent. Young, healthy skin contains a lot of HA, but factors that include aging and sun exposure reduce the amount, causing skin to lose structure and volume.
Restylane® is a selection of FDA-approved dermal fillers that utilize Hyaluronic Acid. These injectable fillers are specifically formulated to offer temporary volume, delivering advantages like lip plumping, cheek lifting, wrinkle smoothing, scar filling, and under-eye hollow correction. Restylane® is versatile and can be applied to multiple areas, including the face, neck, and hands. By mimicking the natural hyaluronic acid found in your body, Restylane® aids in the restoration of youthful fullness, effectively reducing the visibility of deep creases and folds.
JUVÉDERM XC injections take about 30 minutes to administer in our office. A fine needle or cannula is used for the injection, which is given under the skin in the targeted area to add volume or fill in wrinkles and folds. Because JUVÉDERM XC contains lidocaine to improve comfort, an anesthetic may not be needed. However, we still elect to use a topical anesthetic on the area to be treated before giving the injection. Afterword, we may gently massage the treated area(s).
Once treatment is completed, patients can return, with virtually no downtime, to their regular activities. For the first 24 hours after treatment, to reduce the risk of complications, patients should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and alcohol consumption.
Although JUVÉDERM XC is considered safe, there is a risk of side effects. They are usually limited to the injection site, and include the following:
Allergan, Inc., offers two types of JUVÉDERM XC to create a truly customizable approach to your desired results.
Juvéderm is an FDA approved dermal filler designed to treat mild, moderate and severe facial wrinkles.
The basic component is hyaluronic acid, a real ingredient in the skin that helps keep the skin moist and soft and adds volume.
Juvéderm usually contains pain-reducing lidocaine to manage pain during the injection. You can also ask for a topical numbing cream or ice to help keep you comfortable.
You should see the results almost immediately.
Results can last from one year to two years, depending on the formula used and the area treated.
Restylane primarily aims to address and treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, with a specific focus on areas like nasolabial folds (commonly referred to as smile lines) and marionette lines (the lines extending from the mouth corners towards the chin). Additionally, Restylane® aids in preserving volume in areas needing restoration such as the cheeks, chin and smoothing the lips.
After undergoing a complete treatment with Restylane, you can anticipate enduring outcomes for a duration of up to 12 months. However, it’s important to note that individual results may vary.
Both Restylane and Juvederm are dermal fillers that contain hyaluronic acid. Restylane is manufactured by Galderma, whereas Juvederm is produced by Allergan. These two products showcase their strengths in different facial areas, thanks to variances in their manufacturing processes.
Restylane is a durable filler that can deliver results lasting up to 12 months, depending on the specific area of injection. It’s important to note that while Restylane offers long-lasting effects, it is not classified as a permanent solution.
Following the treatment, it is possible to experience mild adverse reactions, including temporary swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, and skin irritation at the injection site. These side effects usually subside within 7-14 days.
Yes, Restylane is considered safe. It is made up of Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in our bodies. Some of the Restylane products have the longest safety and research data available of any dermal filler product on the market.
